rock star guitar concert stageGetting tickets for the biggest concerts and events is a difficult task in 2016.

Gone are the days of buying a ticket at the door. With scalpers ready to jump on tickets as soon as they’re released, only to put the seats on sale minutes later for four times what they paid, in many cases the only way you can get tickets is if you’re ready to click "purchase" just as quickly as the scalpers are.

For this reason, we’ll be using this space to highlight buzzworthy shows with tickets you should try to snag before the scalpers do.

Young the Giant

Young the Giant is another one of my favorite festival bands, and with the festival season about to kick into high gear starting with Governor’s Ball and Bonnaroo these next two weekends, I figured it was a good time to show some love to one of my favorite acts of Firefly 2014.

Also, for this run of shows, their opening act is Ra Ra Riot, another top notch act that has released my favorite song of 2016 so far that was written by someone not named Kanye, Kendrick, or Chance. At $40 this show is a steal.

Mudcrutch

I’ll be honest here: I didn’t know who Mudcrutch was until two weekends ago when I sat down for what I didn’t know at the time was a four-hour long Tom Petty documentary on Netflix. Four hours later, I was more ready than ever to give Tom Petty money for the privilege of watching him perform. Mudcrutch is the band that Tom Petty was in before he wrote "American Girl" and became "Tom Petty: American Rock Personified." But he’s been Tom Petty for a while now, so he’s getting the gang back together and hitting the road again.

Pentatonix

For any “Pitch Perfect” fans out there, Pentatonix is probably an act on your must-see list. It’s a spot they deserve. As much as you might want to dismiss a cappella for its ubiquity across college campuses and lack of overall quality control, when done right it is mighty impressive and creative; it’s fun to see how sounds are recreated, and all the more impressive when enjoyed live.
