gov ball main stageGetting tickets for the biggest concerts and events is a difficult task in 2016.

Gone are the days of buying a ticket at the door. With scalpers ready to jump on tickets as soon as they’re released, only to put the seats on sale minutes later for four times what they paid, oftentimes the only way to get yours is to be ready to click "purchase" as soon as possible.

For this reason, we’ll be using this space to highlight buzzworthy shows with tickets you should try to snag before the scalpers do.

This weekend is the start of Governor's Ball! For those lucky enough to be there, enjoy your weekend of festing! But for anyone that couldn't make it out to Randall's Island, below we're listing some of the biggest and best bands that are performing elsewhere— so you can catch them without having to pay for a three-day pass.

The Killers

Brandon Flowers is one of the top frontmen in rock right now. He’s the type of showman that makes it feel like he would physically bleed for you onstage if you asked, but since you’re not asking, he bleeds emotionally instead. Beyond this, The Killers are absolute hit machines; one of those bands that surprises you in their live set when you realize that you know every word to almost every song they play. They’re a great show not to be missed.

Death Cab for Cutie

Apparently the schedulers at Governor’s Ball have beef with me, because they put Death Cab for Cutie against Kanye West in the headlining spot Sunday night, meaning my dream of a live rendition of Death Cab for Kanye is dead on arrival. Because of this, I’ll be doing everything I can to get Death Cab tickets independent of their Gov Ball set, and with CHVRCHES opening up for them, I’ll make sure to get there early.

Miike Snow

If you haven’t heard of Miike Snow, he is quite an interesting artist to go into blind, so much so that I almost don’t want to ruin the surprise. His music spans from electro to experimental to straight indie pop, and all of it is danceable. The band performs in masks a lot of the time. I can assure you it is a concert you will remember.
